beginners: get out your highlighter

These are just a few important phrases that a newbie to TGM might find interesting. I thought they could be some things to highlight for all you first time readers of the little yellow book. Understand that this is just the tip of the iceburg!:

In the preface: page VII, 1st sentence, 2nd paragraph.

Page 11: copy it and tape it to your forehead!

Page 12: 2-0-A

Page 26: 2nd to last sentence in 1st paragraph, “The Right Forearm...”

Page 37: 4th sentence of 1st paragraph, “Pivot Thrust alone...” and the first two sentences of the last paragraph.

Page 50 & 51: 1st sentence of the 2nd paragraph, “The Practice Stroke...”, the 1st sentence of the 3rd paragraph, “The Address Waggle...”, and the 1st sentence at the top of page 51, “The Forward Press...”. Also, A-F on page 51.

Page 51: 3-F-6, Execution, whole 1st paragraph.

Page 52 & 53: 3-F-7-A, B, C, and D, at least the 1st sentence.

Page 55-57: 4-A-1 through 3; 4-B-1 through 3; and 4-C-1 through 3.

Page 60: 2nd to last sentence, “That - failure to clear...”.

Page 63: 6-0, last sentence, “There is no Stroke...”.

Page 65: 6-A-4, 1st sentence

Page 66: last three sentences starting with “From the Feet...”.

Page 68: 6-B-1-D, another entire page to tape to your forehead.

Page 71: 6-B-3-0-1, it’s best just to see Yoda, or any of his faithful followers.

That will give you enough reading for now.

Great list Teddy Ballgame, but be very careful, highlighters have been known to run dry once one gets started with all the nuggets that need to go to the incubator!

All kidding aside, everyone, not just newbie's will benefit from this list!!

I once over heard a comment at a TGM school of "Why don't I just highlight the entire book"

A great source to help you understand law of the flail is "The Search for the Perfect Swing" by Alastair Cochran and John Stobbs it's one of the few things they got right.

Yes they do trump, but some beginners are more familiar with the terms used in the essentials, I have had success teaching both ways, you kind have to read the student.

I heard Ted mention something similar to this once before.

I spoke to John Fey, first authorized instructor from Indiana, who was in Mr. Kelley's PGA Teaching workshop in Albuquerque, N. Mexico in March of 1980. He relayed the following to me.

Mr. Kelley had his early classes use three high-lighters:

Yellow-Highlight what applies to both Swinging and Hitting.

Pink-Highlight that which applies to Swinging.

Green-Highlight that which applies to Hitting.



Why he used pink for Swingers I am sure is up for debate.
