how important is it to get your hands opposite your right shoulder as a hitter
Hello I'm new to hitting and have been having a very hard time getting my hands opposite my ight shoulder at the top of the backswing. How important is this position? I feel that I'm doing it correctl, then when I video tape myself I see my hands being about 4-5 inches behind. I tried correcting it but I seems that I hit the ball much better with my hands behind my shoulder.

I have lost at least 15 yards by transitioning over to hitting while feeling better compression of the ball. Is his normal?

ml249,

Go ahead and load'er up from 'past your right shoulder' with a Swinger's action -- let the big muscles of the Pivot pull you into the Downstroke -- then, from Release . . . Drive.

You'll learn the timing -- David Toms and K.J. Choi did, and you can, too. Go here: http://www.lynnblakegolf.com/forum/s...choi#post50479, and see posts #12, #16, #18 and #20.

In the end, especially for the recreational golfer, psychological (and kinesthetic) preferences are best accomodated, not challenged.

Thank you yoda. Your help is most appreciated. Thank you for keeping these forums and so willingly respond to our questions.

I took another look at my takeaway in slow motion and found that I wasn't actively producing extensor pressure and setting my right wrist. If i create extensor pressure, i believe i won't be able to take it back nearly as far. Will try this tomorrow at the range.

I wish i lived in Georgia so i could come take lessons with you!

Thanks, ml249.

Given the marvels of today's land, sea and air travel, I am closer than you think!
