I felt my tripod, I felt more compression. Is that correct?
I knew a teaching pro in Hong Kong, though not a certified PGA, his swing is quite impressive. I introduced TGM to him and he said can’t believe a poor guy like me possessed so much golf swing knowledge (thanks Yoda and the big brothers here and there)
He looked at my swing and asked me to lean a bit more to the right at the top of back swing and to keep my head behind the ball at impact. (I immediately related to base of the neck; second axis tilt…I kept it to myself) After a few shots, he said I failed to do so, sometime fat, sometime thin...I knew something wrong!
I reviewed many videos of Yoda as well as Mark Evershed, GSEB. I found out that they have the same left knee action and I felt like that they are on top of the ball during impact. Mark even mentioned in his video the left knee should not kick inward (the way that the body went to the right). He also said that in order to compress the ball, the “second axis tilt look” seems difficult to compress the ball with down and out action. You have to straighten the right wrist in order to reach the ball. He also mentioned that Moe Norman always stood on the left foot and lean forward press even when he was not playing golf. “Head on top of ball at impact” is what he kept saying…Yet, I also noticed that Yoda “seems” standing on the left side or I should say centered, without left knee kick in.
Then, I talked to the only A.I. in Hong Kong. He said he really likes Mark and I verified the right hand grip with him should be more on the cup. (I placed too down to fingers, distorted the right wedge alignment)
I got my click yesterday night going I went to driving range yesterday night with friends(There are more and more Hong Kong golfers get known with TGM). I well prepared all alignments. I don’t want to think too much but just centered with my body and without left knee kick in, forgot all about pivot, just pick up my right forearm to the turned shoulder plan, I started down by left knee strong press and thrust my #3 pressure point to the ball. WOW, the result was very very good. I could feel the right wrist bent with flat left wrist. Most importantly, the #3 pressure was still there after impact. I had great balance without any fall back. I could hear the sound of compressing the ball. The distance for a 9 iron with Project X, D5 swing weight gave me a good 150.
My friends told me that my head was much centered, everything looked like very stable compared with my old swing.
The story was too long, but I want to ask two questions.
1. What do you think the statement of “in order to compress the ball, you must on top of it”
2. What about the left knee action if you chose the head as the centre?
I don't think 1. is a statement you can apply to everything.....although I do like to put my weight on my left side for short irons or some low shots (head will be centered more or less)....not so much with driver tho.
