There is one of a magazine voted Top coach, Hank Haney stated in his book “The only lesson you will ever need” that to be on plane, it is wrong to think that the clubshaft should point at the target line…if you think so, the original plane angle would have to be consistently changing as your arms got higher in order to keep the clubshaft pointing at the target line.
He showed the picture below with the word “No” there…
While the TGM writer, Homer Kelly has his own idea of being "on plane" in his book 1-L-6, The clubshaft always points at the Plane Line except when they are parallel to each other…and 1-L-18, changing the Plane Angle has no effect on the Plane Line.
And most importantly, a swing clip of Hank swing a club himself showed a total different look as described of his "congruent planes" theory. Note that the butt end is pointing at the target line in the backswing and then pointing the target line once again in the downswing…So it seems like Hank Haney's idea of being "on plane" is incompatible with his own motion.

If you cannot take the shoulder down the clubshaft plane, you must take along some other path and add compensations - now, instead of one motion to remember, you wind up with at least two!
