Right Forearm Fanning and The Major Basic Strokes

10-3-A PUNCH- elbow down at the side, a straight line right hand punch is delivered through impact. But the forearm must have a fanning type motion, not a linear type push motion.....a straight line punch is not a fanning motion is it??????
So the book says to have a straight line punch, but not a straight line punch.

The Fanning of the Right Forearm occurs during Start Up for both Punchand Pitch Basic Strokes. There is no Fanning with Push Basic. The Straight LinePunch you refer to is through the Ball. Here, the Right Elbow -- Activefor Hitters and Passive for Swingers -- straightens the Right Arm and causesthe Clubhead to Overtake the Hands via the Roll of the #3 Accumulator, i.e.,the Left Arm and Clubshaft Angle (6-B-3-0), through the Impact Interval to theend of the Follow-Through (8-11).

Per one of my earliest posts, we are not talking about a 'true' Rotation of theForearm wherein the the player physically attempts to 'cause' the Forearm torotate. Instead, he simply allows the Forearm to Rotate in its naturalmanner. It is the natural Motion induced on the Backstroke by the Rotation ofthe Body and the swinging of the Arms. It is the identical motion you make whenyou clap your hands. When was the last time you tried to 'rotate' your forearmswhen you clapped your hands?

So, In other words...listen carefully now:

During Start Up, the The Right Forearm Fans, but it is not 'Fanned.'Through Impact, it Drives (Hitting) or is Driven (Swinging).
