Hand Strength
What is your opinion on hand strength for golfers?

I have heard that Arnold Palmer has very strong hands. Jack Nicklaus, on the other HAND, I have heard has small, rather weak hands.
So, hand strength may be one of many factors in the STYLE, or Variations that one may employ in their technique.

I know a guy that squeezed a gripping device all the way during his drive to a tournament (several hour drive). When he got to the tournament, he couldn't feel the club. You can imagine the results! I don't recommend doing this.

Strong fingers, but flexible wrists... is a phrase I often hear in connection with hand strength.

The placement of the club in the hands/fingers will effect wrist motion.

Grip pressure can also reduce wrist motion but I think this comes down to individual strength. The stronger one is the more grip pressure that probably can be applied before strating to restrict the wrists.

Interesting post lagster. What I find in my practice is that the more you understand your strength the more control you have. Yea, yea what does that mean? Certainly if you exhaust your muscles (squeezing a ball on your way to a tournament) you will suffer the consequences. I don't do my leg workout the day before I go rock climbing. But training your hands to be stronger should only give you more connectivity to your grip. One of my not so famous sayings to my clients is as follows: "You don't train to build muscle, you train to improve the transfer of information between your mind and your body which makes the whole system more efficient. you have a thought to create a specific movement, you can create a specific physical reaction in compliance with that thought/intention." [ It is the reason the name of my private practice is The Physical Experience. ] Whether it's biceps, quads, or hands I believe this to be the truth.

A long time tour player once told me... "The stronger you can get your hands, then the lighter you will be able to grip the club."
