Grip pressure experiment
Interesting grip pressure experiment yesterday. I was having a not uncommon up an down range day and began experimenting with things I have no business experimenting. I just hate that I hit it too high - not all related to flipping but some.
Anyway, I usually grip with about as light a grip pressure as you can imagine. For fun, I put a little extra squeeze on the grip - some shots 5/10 and others 8/10. My ballflight came down, and my spray pattern narrowed. Very cool. More cool - in the look, look, look world my wedges stayed intact longer. My question, was this a byproduct of a "tighter" grip? Probably wasn't, and not sure I'll experiment with it too much more but interested in comments. |
Them grubby paws are clamps! Flexible wrists...firm fingers. Check out "From Mechanics to Feel" starring Yoda and Golfnome. Mr. Hull references grip pressure and flexible wrists (afterall the left wrist is an oiled hinge.) I do not think that you can sense the pressure points if you apply no...um...pressure!
Another thing while I am musing: I think the stronger you are the "lighter" you can grip it whilst still feeling the requisite grip pressure...relatively speaking. I love what Ted Fort said in connection to his grip pressure, paraphrased he said "I leave my finger prints on the grip!" Of course he is a rare breed... a no quitta-hitta. Without the neccessary pressure your power package does not have much structure. My money says that Sam Snead's image of holding a tweety-bird safely has a different application for person with the grip strength of an arthritic two year old! :laughing9 Ever seen Nick Price? He manhandles it! I figure the grip is going to tighten as a by-product of leaking da oil under da pressure. But if you keep the wrists nice and oily (as the Slammer prescribed) then you have an antidote to the human tendency under the gun. Scale of 1-10 (10 being a chokehold I am working on for my mother-in-law's Christmas visit:naughty: and 1 being eldente linguini) I am about a 7-8. Okie out |

Or move the ball position,or alter the stance line.:read:

The grip should be firm enough to take out the “Wobble”. But, if you cock the right wrist as well as the left wrist, then you’ll need the extra hold to steer the clubhead where you want it to go. I recommend a 10/10 grip pressure and tons of hand-eye coordination. Unless you prefer to simply throw the clubhead at the ball, then use oily wrists and I recommend a 1/10 grip pressure and tons of hand-eye coordination.
Tight grips go well with bad grips. You soon discover that if you orient the shaft at 90 degrees across your palms or fingers, that you can grip much more tightly. Then, if you rotate both hands on the shaft so that they both face a little up, like gripping a sledgehammer, it won’t feel so uncomfortable. Then bend both elbows on the backswing and straighten them on the downswing. And add a pre-swing thought; “fore”, to your list. Don’t forget the ton hand-eye coordination. Good luck. Just kidding around. |
