The Fanning Right Forearm Part l

It is clapping hands, and it is that simple. Please embrace theliberating simplicity of that concept! Has anyone clapping in an audience everin history given a passing thought as to whether they were fanning theirforearms, much less attempted to determine if whatever they were doing was thesame as rotation?
The only reason Homer even discussed the concept is because, as simple as itis, some people manage to screw it up. As an example, Miller Barber neverfanned until the Start-Down. But fan he finally did, and that's one of thereasons you know his name. [On the present scene, Jim Furyk is anotherlate-fanner.]
If clapping hands isn't enough of a drill, do this:
1. Put a club on the ground to represent a Straight Plane Line.
2. Take two metal woods, turn them upside down, and grip a few inches below thehead end.
3. Point the grip ends at your Plane Line, and touch them together in front ofyou. They will be almost touching the club you've laid down for your PlaneLine.
4. Now, with Zero Pivot, and keeping the grip ends pointed at your Plane Line, rapidly move both arms (in contrary motion) out and away from you several feeton both sides and then return to the "grip ends touching" positon. The grips ends should be almost touching the Plane Line.
5. After that trial run, repeat the process in a rapid, continuous motion. Awayand back. Away and back. Away and back. Away and back. Away and back! If you doit fast enough and use your imagination, you can almost "see" thePlane itself! [But that's not the point.]
6. The point is that when you watch your right arm, you will be observingits correct motion in Start-Up. When you watch your left arm, you will beobserving the correct motion from Impact through the Follow-Through.
Apply those same motions to your game, and you will no longer wonder whetheryou are fanning or rotating. You will be too busy hoisting trophies orcollecting money from your buddies or both.
Trust me.
