Question for Ted: Strength or Technique?
Ted,
I have a strength vs. technique question. I've seen you hit in person and you are impressively long. Obviously, your technique is good, but my assumption is that at some point technique must give way to right tricep strength. Is right tricep strength the difference maker in hitting, assuming a reasonable technique? What is your right tricep strength level, i.e., how much weight can you press in a right tricep press? |
mechanical advantage
Quote:
I know that I always had a lot of strength for my size. I ran for 8 years in high school and college. We had a rope in our basketball gym that went to the ceiling, @ 25 feet. Our cross country regiment was 5 miles in the morning and 10 times up the rope before class. I never had to touch the rope with my legs or feet. That being said, I was 6'0" and 126 lbs. More importantly, high school was many moons ago. With the extra 64 pounds, I'm afraid that I'd have to take the elevator to the roof. I think that part of my mechanical advantage is the length of my arms. My arms are very long for my size. I can't wear 33" sleeve lengths. 34"/35" are more my speed. |

The reason I asked my question is that my full swing distance with a 48 degree pitching wedge is 130 yards with Swinging and only 105-110 with Hitting and I am trying to figure out why the disparity. I can tricep press 20# 10 times with right arm only; probably not very good. But, for someone who is 6'2" and wears a 35" sleeve, it seems I ought to be getting more leverage with a Hitting procedure. |

backswing height
I take my b/swing to about 4 " above shoulder height,I feel if I go any higher,I,m out of plane, and the hit isnt as good(hitters pattern),how do I get more length from hitters method.I,ll be honest,on a good day,240-250 metres,I get this feeling that Im just not getting as much out of swing as I can,I just get this feeling that there,s more gas in the tank, how can I acheive more out of swing,Thanks in advance

Then in 10-24 you'll find six Release types. So, from the Top the Pivot will transport the Power Package to your chosen Release Point and then employing a Trigger, the 10-20-B Right Arm Throw, your Right Tricep will fire, uncocking the Right Elbow, through Impact into Follow-Through. Not a dumb question at all. The book will help your understanding considerably. |

Im still not sure as to where my c/shaft should be pointing at the top of swing (plane line ?),but one step at a time,eh.by the way,Im only hitting 9 iron at this stage.I also dont want to hit too many until I get a better understanding of swing, but already it feels more compact and much better hit. Thanks again...PS cant wait to get my book |
