Bob Hope Classic / PGA TOUR / January 19-23, 2011
Just watched the TGC swing analysis of world dance champ Tony Dovolani. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Dovolani He's gone from golfing beginner to an eight handicap in just three years. All the while dealing with certain "distractions".
HEY! COME BACK HERE! I'M TALKING TO YOU!! :laughing9 As I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted . . . Tony began the interview by telling the reason for his rapid progress: he and his instructors hyper-focused on his body rotation back and through. He related his rotational golf concept to his dance concept, especially his world-class dancing 'frame' (with which the male encapsulates his partner and directs her about the floor). The swing analysis . . . He's got a problem with his Shoulder Turn??? Please. Tony does not have a Zone #1 Body problem. He has a Zone #3 Hands problem. He has no Finish Swivel. That's the problem. Like tens of millions of golfers . . . He's STEERING (3-F-7-A). Golf's #1 Snare. And that's screwing up a couple of very important things that must happen before. All of us must "free-wheel" -- thank you, Bobby Jones -- through the ball. Even a world-class dancer. Even when your body action is perfect. Give me five minutes with the guy and I change his golfing life forever. :salut: |

As I viewed the same segement that you mentioned in the above post during the telecast yesterday. I was shocked to hear the diagnosis from the practice tee pro in regards to what the issues were with Tony's swing. "More shoulder turn, get your back facing the target" I believe these words were the remedy for the illness. YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME. As for the progress that Tony has made over the past three years, congrats. As for the instruction he recieved during his mini lesson, I hope it fell on deaf ears. Heading to the practice tee armed with such information, I fear Tony may not be moving off his 8 handicap for some time. Great round by BG today. Being a former Gator I hope he continues his fine play. In saying that, I sit way up here in the great white North hoping our hometown boy JK keeps moving up the leaderboard as well. Truly missed you in Hawaii this year and wish you the best next week in Orlando. J Schu |

By way of information . . . Jim Schuman is a long-term member of this site and a Lynn Blake Certified Senior Instructor. He finally got "mad enough" to post! He and I are are coordinating a down-home session in Orlando after the PGA Show. Jim's the real deal: here's a brief rundown: http://www.uwbadgers.com/sports/m-go...man_jim00.html wow. We've got hitters here, guys. This ain't Lynn Blake Chat. This is Lynn Blake Golf. Today, we've heard from Jim Schuman. Credentials above. From Curt Sanders, Lynn Blake Certified Senior Instructor, 2009 and 2010 Carolinas PGA Section Player of the Year. (FYI, The Carolinas Section has more than 2,000 members and is the largest in the world.) From Rick Murphy, Lynn Blake Certified Senior Instructor, 2009 Carolinas Section PGA Professional of the Year and 2010 Teacher of the Year. (See Carolinas PGA Section stats above.) From John Riegger, two-time Champion on the Nationwide Tour, including the 2010 Rex Hospital Open with a record breaking score of TWENTY-under par. And from John Tillery, PGA, Head Professional, Milledgeville CC, Milledgeville, GA, and our newest Lynn Blake Certified Instructor. Monday morning, at the Faldo Institute in Orlando, Florida, I deliver a main platform presentation to hundreds of PGA of America professionals at the 2011 PGA Coaching and Teaching Summit. Who ya gonna call? :salut: Meanwhile, Lynn Blake Golf Master Instructors Ted Fort and Jeff Hull are in Port St. Lucie, Florida, preparing for this week's PGA Winter Series Stroke Play Championship, the PGA's signature winter event. More from them as the week progresses and we follow their cards. This summer, I'll be at Hershey CC, in Hershey, Pennsylvania, at the PGA's Professional National Championship, the most prestigious event of the PGA's rank and file. The Top 20 finishers are exempt into the year's fourth major, the PGA Championship, this year held at the Atlanta Athletic Club in my home town, Atlanta, Georgia. I have four players in the field, Ted Fort, Kip Henley, Jeff Hull, and Curt Sanders. Hey, Kip Henley . . . isn't he Brian Gay's caddy? Right you are! He's also a Class A PGA professional who just happened to win the Tennessee PGA Section Championship this year with a 12-under-par score. This in his "week off" before he carried BG's bag at Whistling Straits in the PGA Championship. C'mon guys. Is all this just "luck"? Just so much "junk science"? If so . . . Load me up. :salut: |
and I ain't skeered of golfin many folks around here either :) We got a strong camp here.......Ted went from (and he won't mind me saying this) a can't play dead guy to a PNC qualifier guy...

Ted's Journey
Quote:
That is, by . . . The Book. From a 60-something Georgia PGA rank in 2004 to a Top 10 in 2010. As Ted himself says "Fat, forty, with a wife and three kids, and still playing just once a week, I realized my dream. I qualified for the PNC." I'll say . . . He shot FIVE-UNDER for the two days and finished solo THIRD. All this in a last round beset with high winds and very difficult winter conditions. Meanwhile . . . Ted's in training. He's never smoked or drank. [He's been my designated driver on every single one of our golf trips!] And he's down more than a few pounds. I'm not sure what to expect next. My guess is . . . Probably something good. His appearance in the field at the Atlanta Athletic Club and the PGA ? I'll carry his bag! |
Welcome Jim. I'm not far, Minneapolis, hopefully I can make it to Madison with a couple of TGM/LBG buddies for a lesson this summer!
