Stopping The Sway

Quote:

For students who have real pivot problem, heads back and forth, I have been working on axis tilts to remove some of the sway...by getting the spine angles right so they can turn around it easier.

Now this works fine but I always feel I have students playing from close to impact fix positions with the bodies if not hands in their first few months

Have u any ideas how to get axis tilts explained and implemented without an impact position to start with??

Paul

Tell the students that any axis tilt is simply the Hip Shift. It isthe 'Hula Hula' flexibility of 7-14. In the beginning, if necessary to stopthe Swaying (Fourth Snare 3-F-7-D), it's okay to have them maintaintheir Impact Body location. Tell them to Slide their Hips (and with them, the weight)to Fix (8-2). Then, keeping the Head Stationary -- yes, it ispossible especially with these Short Shots -- Leave them there in BasicMotion (12-5-1) and even through Acquired Motion (12-5-2). Fromthere, really focus on the Magic of the Right Forearm and Elbow Action to getthe Club Up and Down On Plane.

Sooner or later, of course, they must learn to let the hips simply shiftback after Fix to their normal "between the weight shifts"location at Adjusted Address (8-3 and 7-9).

But by now, with their Magical Right Forearms and Elbows working, they willknow there is absolutely no reason to Sway. All they will want to do is takethe Club Up and Back with their Right Arm and Elbow, Load the Lag,and then Drive it all the way to Both Arms Straight (8-11)!

And then you will utter those famous words of the late famed teacher HarveyPenick:

"I hope that shot made you as happy as it did me!"
