Today on the range it came to me that if I open my stance, my take away feels more natural to me and it feels like I have more room and freedom to drive through with the right side.

Is it just me? I'm wondering why this is....
Trig,
The Stance Line affects only the Pivot Motion. By assuming an Open Stance (10-5-B), you have automatically created a Delayed Pivot (10-12-C):
1. This somewhat restricts your Body Motion in the Backstroke and may well be helping you to better sense your Right Forearm Takeaway.
2. It also assists you in stopping your Hands at the Top of the Straight Line Delivery Path (10-23-A) -- instead of going all the way to the End (10-23-C) -- and hence assists you in the Hitter's Drive Loading (10-19-A).
3. Finally, the freedom you Feel to Drive through the Ball from the Open Stance is entirely consistent with the Delayed Pivot's free Follow-Through. This is in stark contrast to the Closed Stance (10-5-C) and its Short Pivot (10-12-B) that creates a restricted Follow-Through.
Three great Hitters of the last thirty years are Lee Trevino, Larry Nelson and Craig Stadler. It may be more than coincidental that all three played -- and still do play -- from Open Stances.
Open stance with pre-turned hips? Is this possible?
At Pine Needles I needed the pre-turn hips AND a start from Impact Fix to Hit. Now I just like the pre-turned hips and striking the ball from a slightly closed stance.
I need to hit some from the open stance. Can't let the Walrus keep all the good stuff.
I send you to the Hitters Emergency Room and what do you get? The Chief Surgeon comes in and effectively says; "Trig, you don't have a stomach ache, you're having a baby". Wrong analogy...
"Trig, your heart rate and lung capacity is only matched by Lance Armstrong".
Anyway...hope you feel better now...

I catch myself throughout a round of golf getting more and more closed. This may be because I hit alot of balls left, and also poor alignment. I want to try an open stance next practice session. Just how much open should I start with?

There are no 'rules' for this one, 8cork: Experimentation is the only way. As an example, let me relate a story Larry Nelson once told me...
Years ago, when he was first getting started in the Game, he was playing at Indian Hills C.C. in Marietta, Georgia. He came to a medium-length Par 3 and Pull-Hooked his Tee Shot. It surprised him, because he rarely hit such Shots, even in those early days. He decided to figure out what he could do so it would never happen again.
After the round, he went to the practice tee with one express purpose: To see how far left he could aim... and still not have the Ball go left! In other (TGM) words, how Open could he align his Body and still Trace a Square Plane Line? As he experimented, he got more and more and more Open. When he finally found that limit, he came back to a 'middle ground', from which he plays to this day.
Sometimes, 8cork, in Golf as in life, the answer lies within.
i currently use a square closed stance, and as mentioned, the follow through is shot, however, the right forearm takeaway, contradict to most said feel natural.
i tried the square open stance during the weekend, has a completed follow through, at address, more weight is felt on the right leg, the right forearm takeaway feel uncomfortable as the right side seems fixed, however, for the downswing, i need to be careful to have the shoulder goes to the ball first, otherwise due to the left hip moving, it is easy to have a over the top downswing, anything wrong?
When you do the open stance, I have the leg open, shoulder square, then set the hip preturned, is this correct?
