Impact Sound
My ball striking has improved dramatically after only a few range sessions. I know I'm striking the ball on the sweetspot with excellent Horz. Hinge Action. However, the impact sound is mushy. Is that because the balls I'm hitting have been hit for two years and thousands of times? Or, is it because I'm hitting off a Matt? Or Both?

Check to see if you are hitting the sweetspot. Use tape or powder and check. The sound should be loud and crisp. People will turn and look over at you. Matts are a problem if you hit fat and slide into the ball. Go hit balls in a bunker.

I'm puring it. It's got to be the balls. I'm horizontal Hinging tightly over a 4 foot length, 2 feet before and 2 feet after. If you can't crack the ball with that, then it's gotta be the ball.

Did you take the headcover off your irons?

Ok.... you're back in the good graces of LBG. Now I'll pull my driver headcover and leave it off if I happen to be riding (which isn't often), but not the 3-wood or hybrid. I'm pretty anal about not having any nicks or dings on my putter and woods.
Back on topic.... I would like to "hear" more about this sound thing. I've noticed at the tour events I've attended, the iron shots of professionals often sound "thin" to me.

Hmm? I'm keenly aware of the Sound of Impact. It provides feedback on the line of compression that ball flight alone doesn't provide. I find myself searching it out. I find myself sometimes taking a stronger grip and High #3 Accumulator and a Snap release to compress the Horizontal Hinge over as small a distance as possible.
I think that the Old Range Balls don't deform like new balls and the line of compression becomes vague.
