Funny you should ask in this thread.
Rumor has it he is writing his own book. He wanted my input on the possible titles - "My Cinderella Story", "My Scratch Game", "A Good Walk Soiled", "The Beginners Guide to Choosing your Foursome" and one other called "The Greatest Player who Never Lived". I had to break the news that the last title was taken.

I think you got that wrong . . . He told me that he was writing a book on adult diapers and all the physics, alignments and biomechanics involved. It's going to be a Yellow Book like the Machine for obvious reasons. Now he's just trying to come up with the words to fit his anacronimonythingie D.U.M.P. the Computer Age Approach to Potty Perfection.

Has anyone come across a book called "Making Sense of The Golfing Machine"?

In August 1990, I met Bobby Shave, the co-author and inspiration behind the book and the guy who recorded the sessions. [The book is basically a transcription of several Q&As with members of the Florida International University golf team in Miami.] Later, I spent time with him hitting shag balls and talkin' golf in an open field near his home in Homestead, Florida. Two years later, Hurricane Andrew destroyed the city, and I lost contact.

The personal history and stories are great -- Hagen, Hogan, Vardon, Sarazen, Diegel, Armour, Picard, Runyan, Bulla, Demaret, Locke, Boros, Jones...they're all there -- and to this day, I use several of his drills in most every Academy class and private lesson. Drill I educates the Pivot with its Weight Transfer. Drill II educates the Arms and Hands in their Body-Related Hinge Action. Drill III educates the Hands as to their Basic Fanning Motion. Drill IV, the Right Forearm Takeaway and return to Impact Fix. With Drill V, you can actually 'see' the Plane. Drills VI-XIII are more of the same, and Plate IX illustrates the golfing Ideal from a down-the-line view -- "the arms swinging up, down and up as the legs rotate the body."

Get the book.

Read it.

Study it.

You'll be glad you did.

:)

Yoda,
Bobby Shave (channelling Melhorn) doesn't stress extensor action much. As such, he recommends a very soft left arm position at the top without wrist cock. Maybe he just relies on downswing loading.

Got "Swing Like a Pro: The Breakthrough Scientific Method of Perfecting Your Golf Swing" recommended to me by Amazon. Its by Ralph Mann & Fred Griffin.

Anyone familiar with it?
Hit or miss?

Extract the principles of the Mehlhorn text -- Body Rotation (Zone 1 / the Pivot and Balance); Free Arm Swing (Zone 2 / Power and Clubhead Force); and the Vertical Left Wrist and 'Direct Line' (Zone 3 / Closing Only Clubface and Plane). Also, embrace Wild Bill's thoughts on ball control and course management.

As always, avoid extremes and 'ungolf-like' motions.

Finally, get the Mehlhorn DVDs and emulate what you see. Also, note his exceptional emphasis on the Right Forearm and its participation in the Stroke. Unfortunately, that emphasis was captured only by 'The Man' himself. It is absent in the transcriptions of his taped conversations that form the text of the book.

With all due respect to Yoda and all others who have attempted to pen the movement of the golf swing ,there is "THE GUY' who has the greatest book EVER--------------------------------and as of now it is in his head and will Never be publised for $39 or any other price ----------- for the
same reason you would not sell your child.
Maybe if Lynn had not been scared off by Tomesello in 83 (and lost 20 years)and changed his focas from GOLF to makeing money then things would be different.
Homer and MAC without concern for EGO , POWER or MONEY wanted to answer one simple question

HOW DO YOU HIT A GOLF BALL

Never happened, Denny. In fact, Tommy was a non-event in my golf operations. He moved from Georgia to South Carolina in 1982, and I never saw or talked to him again.

Also, I didn't cease business until the summer of 1984, more than a year after Homer Kelley died.

Better check your facts . . . Somebody's been feeding you some very bad information!
