If you had to,

Swing the club with one arm only, forevermore, which would it be?

and why, of course.

One Arm

It depends if you are a righty or lefty golfer and if you want to hit or swing. I know this will open up a can of worms with the "Right Arm Swing". :naughty:

I met and saw the World One Arm Driving Champion from a few years ago... at least he said he was.

He had two arms, but played with one. He used his........RIGHT ARM. He was very impressive. He used a very strong grip(rotated to the right). I filmed him, and he had good alignments coming down, and a very very "late hit." I believe he could hit it close to 300 yards one handed.

He said he went to Europe to compete. He said most of those guys were playing "back-handed." I believe he said they could hit it around 230 to 240. He said he won easily.

I saw him hit. It was kind of hard to believe.

I'm asking you if you had to, so if you are right or left or hit or swing.

I would use the backhand technique for the reasons 12 pc. laid out.

Interesting that a long driver would use the right, I'd love to see the video.

Frankly, you'd be struck with whatever arm you were left with.

So in the meantime- lets use both. Primary & Secondary Levers on the left- Extension Action on the right. Educated HandS.

Which arm delivers the far more powerful blow in tennis forehand or backhand? Just ask Roger Federer (Tiger probably did at the open).
No contest - right arm.

Is it as simple as that?

In tennis many people find the single handed backhand a harder shot to master than the forehand. I mean how often do we do anything bachhanded in our daily lives? If your like me not that often. For this reason i think the backhand is harder to learn as it doesn't come so naturally. Theres also other factors involved such as the backhand is a longer stroke and requires more precise timing which is harder to execute when given little reaction time.

This is Easy

You would always choose your dominant hand / arm. This is independent of whether you hit or swing. If right handed and one wanted to swing => get left handed clubs.

Brilliant! If you wanted to do both, just carry a mix of lefty and righty clubs.

At long last I feel validated! :happy3:

I am right hand dominant, prefer to swing, and I play left handed.

What does it mean then, that most right swinging players are left hand dominant?

This is a wild shot, but what the hey? Why do baseball players swing a bat with their dominant hand away from the pitcher? So that their dominant hand can support the reactive force of hitting the ball from the most advantageous point, behind the bat.

In golf, there is the supporting role, but also a precision role. In TGM, most of the sensing is in the right hand (PP#1 and #3). Wouldn't you rather have your dominant hand directing traffic than your non-dominant hand?

Bigwill 10-06-2006 12:39 AM

Personally, it would have to be my left (I'm righty). I have a lot of trouble hitting the ball with my right hand only. Left hand only, I do ok.

Golf

Don't forget that the arm you choose is the one you will putt with too.:laughing9

I'd go with my right arm. It seems you'd have more shot options that way. How are you going to hit a shot out of deep fairway rough with only your left arm? At least with your right arm you essentially have both hitting and swinging at your disposal.

And right arm putting is really easy too.
