Equaled Personal Best Today
 

Thought I would share this. I played 36 today and equaled my personal best on the second 18.

Played Santa Ana Casino course (Tamaya/Cheena nines) from the blue tees in the morning. Shot a very respectable 75. That is about a stroke under my cap.

Hooked up with one of the pros and a student of his (young kid) for nine holes (I was going to play a full 18 ). They were going to play the tips so I joined them (about 7100 from the tips, but desert golf - fast and firm and at 5000 feet). Pro was hitting the ball pretty good, but made a couple of mistakes that cost him a few strokes (didn't warm up, had not played in awhile and hit some shots fat at the wrong time). Anyway I blistered the Tamaya nine again for a 37 with a beautiful chip-in birdie on 8.

Hooked up with another young kid (hits it a ton) and a couple of other good players for the Cheena nine. Played solid (1 bogey) until 6 when I buried an uphill putt for birdie. Parred out (436 par 4, 620 par 5, 535 par 5) to shoot 36 on the second nine. A sweet 73 on a 7100 yard course! :shock: Birdie putt for even par on the last just slid under the hole. :sad2: I was shaking when I got in the clubhouse. :shaking: The women's course rating was 79.5/146 and the men's was 73.2/131. Truly scary, but exhilarating. Best scoring round ever given the course length.

I owe it all to extensor action. I finally (after 2+ years) got the feel of extensor action in the full swing. Lynn and Ted thank you. I'll remember this one for awhile.

Congratulations "Defender of the Machine". That is a round to be proud of. Somethings, such as Extensor Action, reveal themselves further down the road than other Machine concepts. Could you please tell us a little more about your discovery of EA and the new feels it brings to your game?

Based on your handicap that's 6 under par. Maybe you should enter some LPGA qualifiers?

Fat and Thin
 

I was really struggling hitting balls fat and thin. When I chip and do that I always work on extensor action and it fixes the problem. Have tried applying that to full swing and it always felt too tight and mechanical. Apparently the key is to keep at it. The tight and mechanical feel slowly went away as I began to get comfortable. I was probably overdoing it a little and as I relaxed I let up on the tension just a bit. The best thing is that I feel like I can drive down through the shot so much better.

It never felt better than on my 16th yesterday. It was a 436 par 4 uphill. I smoked a tee shot down the middle which left me 187 to a back pin. The ball was a little above my feet (trouble territory when hitting shots fat), so I choked down on 4h, applied a little EA, and trusted it. Pured it high about 30' left of the pin. Down in two for a good par on a tough hole.

I believe way back when Lynn posted that Homer considered including extensor action as the 4th imperative.

That would be Rhythm, not Extensor Action (probably would be a fifth place finisher).

great job steph..from a fellow socal machine head i also found the same problems with extensor action but have finally found that happy medium..i remember ted telling me what ea felt like and it works

Once you get the feel and get it ingrained it is sweet. No worries about impact. You know it will be solid and the only remaining thoughts are where do I want the ball to go.
