Katie Skeeles / 2008 Most Improved Junior Girl / Atlanta CC / December 1, 2008
A tip of the LBG cap to 16-year-old Katie Skeeles for winning Atlanta Country Club's 2008 Most Improved Junior Girl Award!
Katie and I began working together last July. She had been playing golf for about 18 months, and at the time, her 'personal best' score was 107. Within two months, she beat that score by 20 strokes, carding an 87 in tournament play. What is even more remarkable is that the 87 was produced with a 47 on the front and a 40 on the back. And that 40 included a triple at the last! Her near-term goal statement, which she writes down in her Performance Analysis Journal after every practice session or round, is "I shoot in the 70s". Bet with this girl, not against her! |
Great news Lynn!! You must be so proud of the progress that Katie has made this year.

Hmmmmm 16 years old. Playing for less than 2 years. Scores go from 100's to 80's in just a few months. Has a very nice swing. Maybe I should start sending her things to autograph now BEFORE she gets famous. Keep it goin' Katie. It appears your future is bright.

Katie's Journey

Three of the major changes I am proud of are her Grip, Pivot and Finish. Her right hand used to be well-Turned (to the right), so much so that it was almost parallel to the Plane. With lots of practice, she fixed that in a couple of sessions. Her Pivot was virtually non-existent: Her Foot and Knee Action were minimal, and her Hip and Shoulder Turns were restricted, all of which limited her Power and contributed to Plane problems. A disciplined application of the MacDonald Drills transformed her Motion and helped her Timing. In the past month, we removed the tilt from her Backstroke Turns. Finally, her Finish used to be 'sawed off' and very 'blocky' (no Arm/Hand Rotation). She quickly learned a correct Finish Swivel out of the Follow-Through (Both Arms Straight position) and to pose in a professional Finish (with due attention to the five Finish alignments of 12-3). As she learned to 'free-wheel', she went from hitting weak Fades to strong Draws. We also worked hard on all aspects of her short game: Chips, Pitches, Sand Play and, of course, Putting. She was able to put it all together very quickly, and -- voila! -- in tournament play knocked twenty strokes off her Personal Best. We work together every week, and she continues to improve. I can hardly wait 'til spring . . . :happy3: |

Three's Company
I have added to my post above a third change that Katie made in her Golf Stroke. For convenience, I am reprinting the edited paragraph here:
