Question regarding Left Wrist please

Hi
I've been thinking about my left wrist and struggling with the right feeling at impact. I understand the left wrist is either level, cocked or uncocked.
I understand that the downswing and backswing positions may not be replicated i.e. cocked on backswing at one point and uncocked on downswing at not necessarily the same point.
At impact on a standard shot what position should the left wrist be in - level, cocked or uncocked?
Thanks in advance,

Mud Ball.

Mud Ball,

Level at impact, uncocked at follow through.

Thanks - I think in my attempt to feel the left wrist flat at impact I've been fully uncocking at impact. If I set the wrist level it feels harder to feel the left wrist flat.

May I extend this conversation?
I also believe the left wrist "passes through" level at impact.
I think the uncocking of the left wrist (#2 accumulator) starts at trigger and is not complete until and simultaneously with follow through, both arms straight. I also think the uncocking IS the downward movement of the club. I also think that the cocked wrist (to whatever amount of cocking) is NECESSARY or NO ACCUMULATOR 3 remains. ie. Wrist cock is required to have accumulator 3. I also think that the wrist cock of the left wrist brings the wrist to vertical because of the throw out action. Once the wrist reaches uncocked there is no more accumulator 3, no more endless belt action, and I would be completely on my own to MANIPULATE my left wrist to vertical. Very iffy and lacking consistency due to the many things happening at that time.
Just my thoughts-

There you go - you managed to articulate a key point I was thinking about. I feel that as I fully uncock too early. I have run out of acc 3.
But what I think I mistakenly do is try to feel the left wrist supernate i.e. I feel it more with the wrists uncocked - whereas with wrists level and a club in my hand the wrist feels more 'cupped' i.e. less supernated - does that make sense?

Hogan also. On the plane when #2 is triggered- is the left bent? Not that I see that as anything but an unavoidable "nonproblem". Also- where does the ball go and is it consistent?

Mud Ball 12-23-2009 06:21 AM

Well my tendency is to pull. But I wasn't really looking at this problem as a directional one. I'm thinking it robs me of some length as I am basically not using enough of accumulator 3.
I think it contributes to the heavy shot and lastly and probably the main issue is I think it might contribute to the height the ball goes i.e. too high.
The first question was about is the left wrist bent when triggering / releasing accumulator 2?
I would say mine is - yes. Although not a great deal and not more than at address.

HungryBear 12-23-2009 07:50 AM

This is a guess. At impact your hands are not leading enough and there is NO forward lean to the shaft. Let me give a image to try. Imagine the club is a loaded rifle and you grip the barrel. At address the rifle points at you but as you take it back and cock it then the barrel does not point at you until after follow through. At impact the gun goes off but is aimed well outside your left hip. A scary image but makes the point. Don't shoot yourself in the hip, or worse, hit another bad shot.

lol - that's a great image thanks :o)
I certainly know what it should look like and you made a good guess - At impact my hands are not leading enough.
And one of the things I have been trying to work on was to increase this forward lean of the club and keeping the hands leading. But I am aware that I was also fully uncocking at impact. If I do a slow motion swing - I'm fine. If I chip - I'm fine. Just full shots at speed - particularly driver and longer clubs.

Mud Ball,

Do you have a Taly?

If you are cheating on your alignments, it will help you see it quick!

No I don't have a Taly - but I know what you mean - I've been to the site and watched some of the videos. I wasn't sold on the website - although I have heard from golf blogs that some people like it as a training aid. I'll take another look... thanks

Dave, don't use it like they teach you, use it the way YODA teaches you!

Oh man, what a great video!

I might think that if you can do it in slow motion then start in slow motion and notch up your speed keeping swing alignments intact until full speed swing "works" also

Thanks, Kev.

Man, we do need a specific video on this (in hi-def!). Taly Williams, the device inventor, is a true friend of LBG, and we've talked several times about a video.

Stay tuned!

PS Does it seem like there are a lot of 'stay tuned's' lately? Well . . .

Stay tuned!
