windshield wiper divots

i was hitting balls to day and i looked down and i saw i had a couple windshield wiper divots. i was wondering yoda is this when i am not hitting the impact bag and i am pulling my arms inside? cause when i tried to image the impact bag out there i would have the nice divot? :?:

What's a wiper divot man?

jim_0068 05-09-2005 11:23 PM

lol....i know alllllllllllllll about this.

Divots that start straight and curve left towards the end. Its a product of going left after impact instead of OUT

I think I do this as well. Could making sure the rear shoulder moves downplane all the way to both arms straight help? I think that stops me from moving left too much

Divots

I have the same problem.

Divots should never go left of the Plane Line. If they do, you have a bent Plane Line. With short irons, your divots should go to the right; mid irons, slightly right to straight; long irons and woods, straight.

To understand proper divot direction, think about the Angle of Approach and how it points further and further to the right as the Ball moves back in your stance.

A bent Plane Line is generally due to the Right Shoulder not going Down enough (more Out than Down).

I WAS RIGHT??

I'm scared Timmy :(

One note of caution to some who read this. DOWN plane is not a vertical drop (ala Faxon) but a Down and Out motion on an incline plane. Remember to stay on the plane- Down, Out and Through.

Can a swinger use the angle of approach? If I am loading the left wrist as a swinger, should I try to aim the lag along the angle of approach? That would certainly solve my downstroke blackout. I believe Brian M. said that the clubhead strikes the ball at 4pm and leaves at 10pm.

angle of approach is more compatible with an angled hinge, so to the extent that you do this, be aware that you're moving away from horizontal hinge OR you are shifting your plane line out to the right with horizontal hinge and that will tend to give you some big right to left shots. Take note that this is also moving into the land of cross line hip motion, again, more of a hitter's move.

Here is an excellent post from 12 piece bucket concerning the flat left wrist, however, it should also apply to this thread.

EC demonstrated this to me yesterday. If you do not go to Full Extension (Level to Uncocked), he showed me how you will end up off-plane. I do not have a problem with Flat but with full extension - Level to Uncocked. If you don't fully uncock, you don't get the full Downard dimension, you lose your paddlewheel and your swing is off-plane.

EC prescription - hit little shots from Fix finishing at follow-through both arms straight left wrist fully uncocked and club pointing at the plane line. Check your alignments holding the Follow-through. Did you get to full extension (uncocked)? Did you keep your left Flat right Bent? Are you pointing the club at the plane line?

The sound is TOTALLY different. No uncock = click . Full Extension = OBLITERATION = a very loud THUMP .

The feeling of impact is much different. The ball will feel MASHED like it was just FLATTENED by your 3 dimensional downstroke.

EC is one heck of a teacher. I'm still trying to get this completely into my game. You can hit good shots with a Flat Left Wrist and a Bent Right Wrist. But you can hit GREAT shots when you get FULL LEVER EXTENSION by going to FULLY UNCOCKED. The difference in compression something that cannot be explained. It's like you hit a little 50 yard shot that felt like it could go 300 yards.

Another thing he showed me was to go to both arm straight and SUPER Uncock your left wrist. I'm mean really exaggerate it. Hold that position to get the feel. Then it some more chips/pitches using the Basic Motion proceedure provided in Chapter 12. Hit some shots not looking at the ball. Actually watch your hands and arms while hitting the ball. See your alignments in dynamic action.

Try hammering the ground with your left arm only on a vertical plane then transfer this feel to the Inclined Plane. Remember #2 is Clubhead motion, not Clubface motion. See 2-P. Also check out 4-D-0 and 4-D-1.
The Release is Hand Motion and Wrist Motion.
