Aiming point????

HI everyone...again. :-)

Please explain aiming point to me. Where is it exactly? On the target line? Inside the target line? Where do you focus you spot? I know everyone varies slightly but in genral...thanks

I think is there more than 1 way to use an aiming point. Maybe think about the aiming point on the plane line, instead of the target line....because they can be different (not parallel). I think ball position and length of the club might affect the aiming point.

You are gettin' there! Aiming Point is on the DELIVERY LINE, which could be the Plane Line or a Visual Equivalent (e.g. Arc or Angle of Approach).

There are 2 basic procedures . . .

1. Aiming Point is held constant for all clubs and BALL POSITION MOVES.

2. Ball Position is constant and Aiming Point moves.

Aiming Point can be used for any release type but typically used to control Snap Releases. This is used to control the release based on the length of shaft. That's why the aiming point is more Down Plane for short irons relative to longer shafted irons.

Mr. Kelley devised this procedure basically from drawing straight lines free-hand. Chalk on starting point eyes on finishing point . . . draw line. Same concept . . . hands at top . . . eyes on aiming point direct thrust to that point.

Point vs Location

There is Aiming Point and Impact Fix Hand Location. If you set in Impact Fix you will notice the location of the hands, different for woods and wedges. This is the Hand Location. You need to pass through Impact Fix Hand Location to strike the ball. The Hands are always leading the clubhead, of course.

Aiming Point is similar but thought of differently. Lag Pressure and PP3 is delivered (or aimed) to this Aiming Point location along the Delivery Line. It is the release point and varies depending on club length, ball position, type of release, hand speed and shot played. Homer says you need to experiment Aiming Point release. A Sweep release Aiming Point is closer to the ball than a Snap, and every golfer’s hand speed is different, so experience and experiment will determine it.

Impact Fix Hand Location is Geometric and Aiming Point is Action.
