Adjusted address hitting
I'm sorry if this has already been answered, I did search unsuccessfully for this topic in the archives. My question is "Is there any any major pitfalls from hitting from an adjusted address position?" I've been hitting balls into my net and it feel and sounds great. I haven't taken it to the range yet. My hitting motion from impact address works but the ball flight is lower than I'd like so I thought I would try adjusted address. It seems to work. Any feedback would be welcome.

I'd like to hear this as well. Personally I don't think there's a mechanical disadvantage, but more or less what the golfer feels more comfortable with. I think the advantage is that it can make it easier for the golfer to execute. It is amazing how many people bash it without every giving it a real chance or feel uncomfortable doing it a few times and never give it a chance.

standard address vs impact hands
Lynn vs Ted
I think Yoda has explained that he finds it easier to trace the planeline in the take-away when starting from standard address. Starting from impact hands address has it's advantage in the fact that you don't need to change the hand conditions, just carry back on plane, and then thrust back down plane into the inside aft of the ball. |
This has a lot to do with the backstroke and loading as well. Standard Address is more conducive to "swinging back" and "Fixy" address is more "carry backy" since you are essentially loading the entire primary lever.
Also I think fix works well with cross line hitting due to the hinging and the way the face is when the shaft is "pre-leaned". |

I was always a swinger, always adjusted address. Now I feel I'm more of a hitter, and I'm loving the added structure that impact hands is giving me at address. Makes me feel just like Brian Gay, even if I still hit it like Ben Gay. :) Kevin |

I think you need to give any adjustment a legit chance. 3JACK |

I think that there are a lot of hitters starting from Adjusted out there. Didnt Yoda suggest Brain Gay and Larry Nelson as examples? I might be wrong. Yoda himself does this too when hitting I think. He loves a Lagging Takeaway.
Dont think there's a "major pitfall", maybe not quite as simple a procedure. You have to apply Extensor Action, allow the for the flattening of the left wrist, bending of the right etc in Startup. I guess one of the advantages is the Lagging Takeaway. The Swing Back that Bucket mentioned. It does feel great and the CF does a lot of the work. Like hitting an impact bag on the way back and another one on the way down, you Lag in both directions. Homer specified 10-9-A , Standard Address for both 12-1 Drive Loading and 12-2 Drag Loading. I wonder why though? Why not starting in Fix for 12-1? Anyone got any thoughts? |
Yoda answered in the Ted Fort Hitters' Address Routine video, "to make it easier to switch back and forth between hitting and swinging."
Disadvantage for hitters is having to re-create the fix amount of right wrist bend. |
Thanks Loren.
I should correct my statement above about Larry Nelson and Brian Gay being Hitters from adjusted. They are not. I had misinterpreted a story Lynn relayed in which they discussed the merits of a bent left arm at address to mean adjusted address, a bent left wrist. That was incorrect on my part. Brian starts from Fix but with a slightly bent left arm. Something he and Larry Nelson discussed at length one afternoon at Lynns club. Love your posts. O.b. |
