Johnny Miller Golf Swing Fundamentals
Hello,
Here is a video with Johnny Miller and his golf swing fundamentals. In chapter 2 he talks about impact. There is also chapter 3 and 4 on the youtube where he talks about the slice and the draw. What do you guys think about his fundamentals? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvTWgui4Tjo |
"The Club wants to go where it's supposed to". Johnny Miller
"I studied Impact so much, I feel as though I should have my Phd. in it." Johnny Miller "The only way to move your weight is to move it over to the Left side." Johnny Miller "Get it down to here, and then wooooooom through impact." Johnny Miller Good stuff. I didn't watch the "Impact" Lesson because I don't want to get confused by too much technical information although I found his application of "Gravity" during the downswing very helpful. |
Not everybody is fond of Miller:

The guy won the US open, British Open and dominated golf from 1973-1976. I think you can disagree with him, but I think Johnny knows a little bit about the golf swing. He also worked with Ben Doyle and I have heard he has read The Golfing Machine. In the 1970's his game was something to watch, particularly the irons.

After watching that I thought I had just left the dome with KevCarter.
It would be very interesting to actually listen to him talk about the Machine with Machine terminology. |

You do not need to be a great player to teach. Players usually know a lot about their own games. I would look here rather than Johnny Miller for real help with the game.

I think that being a great player like Johnny Miller may be a detriment to teaching. Certainly, JM knows his swing and has tweaked it over a lifetime of exceptional play and hard work. He's one of the greatest golfers in my lifetime although I haven't yet seen Innercityteacher swing the club.
What we're seeing in JM's video explanations is "his version" (pattern). He uses some demonstration, but a lot of his presentation is the explanation of his "feelings" as most Pro's do. Most of the comments made by Pro's need to be ran through a translation algorithm. Listen to their descriptions of their procedures and try and determine their alignments and force to understand the mechanics behind their feelings. I wouldn't say that Johnny Miller was wrong about anything concerning his Golf Swing but his explanations aren't as effective in helping others understand as he thinks they are. "Get it down to here, and then wooooooom through impact." Johnny Miller I respect the simplicity of that. :laughing9 That's how I describe my swing. :laughing9 |

I disagree a little, although your premise is perfect. I would talk to Johnny Miller about how to play the game. I would come here to learn how to swing the club. Not that there aren't folks here who can play, someone with the experience of Mr. Miller has ideas on the game that would be priceless.... Just another opinion my friend. :salut: Cheers, Kevin |
