First Pole-ie of the Year?
It was my pleasure to play golf today with forum member and new friend, ColtsFan. During the round I had a pole-ie from 110 with a wedge. The shot wasn't great - a little thin - but it was online and the flag stopped my ball and gave me a birdie chance and easy two putt.
Is this the first of the year? How about you southerners?

I was playing the ninth on the Star nine at Santa Ana GC in Bernalillo, NM about 3 weeks ago. I was about 105 out or so and hit a choked down PW. It hit the flag about 2/3 of the way down... and ricocheted about 50' away. Three putts later, a solid six (YES!!! - ). Shot a 78 and was seriously POed.

Steph,
Per Post #2 here http://www.lynnblakegolf.com/forum/s...ead.php?t=5470, with that double bogey six, you scored a 'hawk'. And your approach shot was 'hawkish'.
Where else but LBG?

Nay, nay; Just a Bogie
It was a par 5. I had high expectations of a birdie. In some ways I was lucky. The ball went left. If it had come right back at me it would have been very wet.

"Hole 14, 55m pitch shot, hit flag, slam dunk in the hole, by Matthew Smith, aged 10".
Quote for Shot of the Day in a scramble a few months back. He won dad a 6 pack. I hope he doesn't think that I am going to give them back when he turns 18

 Okay, okay . . . I stand corrected.
Nevertheless, the definition holds:
hawk n. A poor score of any magnitude resulting from a shot hit just too straight for the player's own good.

The reason you can't sustain the lag is because you are so eager to make the club move fast (a reaction to the intent of "hitting it far"). So on a full shot you throw it away too early, which doesn't happen for your short chip. (bts)
