First Pole-ie of the Year?

It was my pleasure to play golf today with forum member and new friend, ColtsFan. During the round I had a pole-ie from 110 with a wedge. The shot wasn't great - a little thin - but it was online and the flag stopped my ball and gave me a birdie chance and easy two putt.

Is this the first of the year? How about you southerners?

I was playing the ninth on the Star nine at Santa Ana GC in Bernalillo, NM about 3 weeks ago. I was about 105 out or so and hit a choked down PW. It hit the flag about 2/3 of the way down... and ricocheted about 50' away. Three putts later, a solid six (YES!!! - ). Shot a 78 and was seriously POed.

I feel your pain. It was my first 'real' round of the year, and other than a short 3 hole stretch late in my round, I was a mess on the greens. I think I had 4 three putts and my chipping wasn't much better... Off to the scoring zone forum....

Per Post #2 here http://www.lynnblakegolf.com/forum/s...ead.php?t=5470, with that double bogey six, you scored a 'hawk'. And your approach shot was 'hawkish'.

Where else but LBG?

It was a par 5. I had high expectations of a birdie. In some ways I was lucky. The ball went left. If it had come right back at me it would have been very wet.

Now I know why the Hawk aimed for 6 foot uphillers, the damn pin can get in the way of holing out. Makes you wonder why he didn't have his caddy tend the flag when playing approach shots.

The "hawk" certainly qualifies since my intended score was a birdie. The mantra for par 5s is, "Must birdie par 5s, MUST birdie par 5s!!!". If only a mantra could make it happen...
