I've been playing well over the last month (shooting a 66 and 68along the way) as more Machine concepts have become clear(hinging and rhythm in particular). One thing I have been struggling a bit with is how I handle those "tweener yardages" when I can't hit my stock shot. This has been particularly true with the shorter irons and I'm just not getting it close enough from 140 and in.
I'm a swinger and seem to have a difficult time regulating thrust for these types of shots. Has anyone tried using delayed hip action to preset backswing length as a distance control technique? Any advice or things to look out for when doing this? I messed around with it at the range this evening with encouraging results.

Well, obviously you have some problems to work out and certainly it will take some time using that approach. Call me when you start shooting 62. Yoda started a Secret Society (LBG-S.S.) among the better players on this site with which he shares Short Game Secrets sworn to him by HK himself with the promise that they be shared only with those who learned to score 62 or better. So, keep trying my friend.
