To Swivel or not to Swivel
All of us understand the difference in appearance of a Left Wrist that’s Cocked, Level and Uncocked. We also know that Homer Kelley says:
Quote:
A Swivel is a Rotation of the Toe of the Clubface and Heel of the Clubface around the Sweetspot on the Clubface. Simply stated, it’s the Toe and Clubshaft Rotating around the Sweetspot. The Swivel is needed so the Swinger can Uncock and Roll (Swivel) on the same plane line. Having only a small amount of #3 accumulator angle is not the simple solution. Swingers using a Sequenced Release should not use the Elbow Plane because the Club would need to uncock at release and the longish swivel may decelerate the Clubhead (unless you're Ben Hogan). Carefully consider also, that once the Right Arm begins to straighten and and the left Wrist begins to uncock that it's not possible to stop the Wrist Uncocking at Level for Impact and resume Uncocking till both arms are straight. Swingers learn to Uncock then Swivel and meld that into a smooth fluid motion. Keep in mind that the closer to Impact you Release, the shorter the Swivel Interval and the Shorter the Swivel interval, the steeper the Swing Plane should be and the more Uncocked your Left Wrist will be. There is a way to Pre-Swivel. Both Trolio and McHatton arch their Left Wrists before Uncocking. They Uncock with an Arched Left Wrist and Roll by Pivoting into Impact. It seems effective for them. |
Impact and the Level Left Wrist
Quote:
Because the Club can also be adjusted in the Hand without disturbing the Level Left Wrist, it is also independent of the #3 Accumulator Angle (6-B-3-0/B). For example, visualize a Zero #3 Angle created by holding the Club in the lifeline of the Left Hand while maintaining the Level left Wrist. The Level Left Wrist at Impact is is one of TGM's great "samenesses", and for golfers wishing to simplify an already complex mechanism, it should be so understood. :salut: |

Yoda, take two aspirin, I got it. I’m feeling foolish. The Release Sequence #2,#3 doesn’t mean that you must finish 2 before you begin 3. It means that #2 occurs first. Soon after Uncocking begins, the swivel should occur and Uncocking continues till full extension. Uncocking continues while swiveling. Just make sure that the ball gets in the way of the clubface when the Left Wrist is Level….
So, 30% of everything I said earlier was correct except for one minor detail. :laughing9 :laughing9 :laughing9 Yoda, in all seriousness, when I decided to take this journey twenty-five years ago, I didn’t comprehend that I would be swimming oceans, walking across deserts or conquering kingdoms. Honestly, I thought it would be a walk in the park. But, I’ve come to realize that journeys don’t start at the mountain top, they start at the bottom. Thank you for not giving me the answers. :) The next journey I take, I'll buy airline tickets. |
