All of us understand the difference in appearance of a Left Wrist that’s Cocked, Level and Uncocked. We also know that Homer Kelley says:
Quote:
2-P THE WRISTCOCK The Uncocking of the Flat Left Wrist is a Perpendicular Motion – not a Horizontal Motion (as defined in 4-0). The Left Wrist (6-B-2) is Cocked and Uncocked per Stroke Pattern (Chapter 12), per 4-B and per 4-D. It normally moves from “Cocked” to “Level” between Release and Impact, and from “Level” to “Uncocked” during the Follow-through. Wristcock is a Clubhead motion – not a Clubface motion. Only with a Turned Left Wrist, such as 10-2-D, can Uncocking be both motions that is, actually Throwing the Clubface at the Ball.
If I swing on an Elbow Plane like a Hitter (Black Sheep’s) then my Left Wrist would also be level at Impact, because my Hands are about ‘belt buckle’ high above ground. But using a Square Shoulder or Turned Shoulder Plane, the Hands of Swingers are a few inches higher at Impact and because of this, will not have Level Wrists. The Steeper the Swing Plane becomes, then the more Uncocked the Left Wrist becomes at Impact.
A Swivel is a Rotation of the Toe of the Clubface and Heel of the Clubface around the Sweetspot on the Clubface. Simply stated, it’s the Toe and Clubshaft Rotating around the Sweetspot.
The Swivel is needed so the Swinger can Uncock and Roll (Swivel) on the same plane line. Having only a small amount of #3 accumulator angle is not the simple solution.
Swingers using a Sequenced Release should not use the Elbow Plane because the Club would need to uncock at release and the longish swivel may decelerate the Clubhead (unless you're Ben Hogan). Carefully consider also, that once the Right Arm begins to straighten and and the left Wrist begins to uncock that it's not possible to stop the Wrist Uncocking at Level for Impact and resume Uncocking till both arms are straight.
Swingers learn to Uncock then Swivel and meld that into a smooth fluid motion. Keep in mind that the closer to Impact you Release, the shorter the Swivel Interval and the Shorter the Swivel interval, the steeper the Swing Plane should be and the more Uncocked your Left Wrist will be.
There is a way to Pre-Swivel. Both Trolio and McHatton arch their Left Wrists before Uncocking. They Uncock with an Arched Left Wrist and Roll by Pivoting into Impact. It seems effective for them.
