Downswing Triggers
I was curious as to what might be the most repeatable way to initiate the downswing?

I have experimented with buckling the left knee toward the traget (flag) as my first move down, followed by dropping my right elbow (see Bertholy)

I have also tried firing my right knee at the ball while simultaneously bringing my hands down. Timing impact so the right knee and hands basically meet the ball the same time. (see Armour)

As long as my head stays over my right knee at impact, and my right shoulder comes down the angled plane, they both work well at getting my weight to left side and clearing my hips. They are both much better than starting down with my hands first.

Do you guys know of any other way to inititate the downswing that may be even more reliable than these two?

For Swingers- whatever cranks it up and allows the left half of the Flying Wedge to - FLY. I just let the right side re-act to what the left side pull is doing- aka Snead Squat. Bump and turn the hips, throw acc#3, roll and slam. Arms straighten after Horizontal Hinge and then up to the end.

6b- that sequence of Snead moves is exactly what Bertholy taught.(uses Snead as a model) he calls it "buckle, sit, slide"
In Jodi Vasquez's book he said Hogan fired the right knee at the ball, but in looking at footage he actually seems to really buckle that left knee first to start the downswing and keeps it bent until after impact.

In looking a lot of pro swings most seem to start with the left knee/ankle firing down the line which pulls the hips, which helps pull the arms into the slot, and helps keep th eshoulder from "roundhousing"

Can you really lose when you use Snead as a model? I dont think so...

Do you straighten your right knee as Snead did?

Left hip BUMP.----start down WAGGLE.
From the TOP the left hip slide /bump moves the hands about a foot down plane .
Practice ,Practice,Practice
THEN TURN.

No, I don't use Snead as a model to copy or anyone else. After loading the left wrist on the back swing, I just want to pull down and let it fly and uncock. It's the ol' Roll Prep of accumulator 3- transfering power from acc2.

I like Snead but I could never look like him.

As always thanks for your input guys. I will practice and experiment with your suggestions.....

DG,
I have also experimented with just starting my DS with bringing my right shoulder down the plane line like Tommy, and not thinking of anything else.
It does seem to shift my weight and simultaneously open my hips at impact. (Im referring to the drill where he puts the club behind his arms, and then just moves his rt. shoulder down the target line)

So I should concentrate on the rt foremarm going down the target/plane line and not the right shoulder? Maybe you can tell which of the Tommy vids shows this downswing procedure? I always thought it was tough to hold the rt shoulder back, but since learning TGM mechanics the rt shoulder down move seems get the job done IF I get my weight to the left side.

Birdie, thats kind of what Ive been doing as mentioned earlier, head over rt knee and rt shoulder down plane. This type of thing was NEVER taught to me by pro's here in Indy. Ive only seen a couple couple pro's, and this d/s thought/move, which basically eliminates the OTT "lunge", was never even mentioned.

Thats why you gotta love TGM.....

Thanks Powerdraw, hope the info helps. I'm not here to debate the issue anymore. If someone is trying to seek help in an honest way. I'll help out. If you here to debate the subject, you're really here to debate Homer's work. What Tommy taught can be found in the book. There is actually nothing to debate, it's a proven system/approach (Tomasello students winning tournaments (at all levels) and/or lowering their scores/handicaps).
