Since you brought up Jack Shepherd, have you ever seen the movie "You Never Can Tell" where the main character is Rex Shepherd, played by Dick Powell? Wonderful movie and much more succinct and interesting than "Lost."
How's that for a measly effort at thread jacking?

Oh ya, hey with 10-2-D grip theres no way you can use the normal "the left wrist stays vertical to the basic plane" rules for Hinging. Right?
