I didn't.
"Fore" three reasons
1. I'm just not that smart
2. I dont watch TGC- maybe "the big break" or a non "televised" match .
3. I said 3 but 2 will do- I have tgc as an example here.

Could not resist small moment of levity (very small)

Not sure if I mentioned it here but I always felt this contest was a sham to try a represent to the golfing masses that TGC was going search the best of the entire country while having the instructors pre selected. Martin Hall has been on many TGC instructor shows so how can you be the "next" when you are already there?

Same thing for the gal, might be a great teacher but a known quantity to TGC. I don't know Wayne Player but given that someone smart at TGC probably said "is this going to look good?" and then someone had to say "who cares".

I am glad I got to see lots of great videos out of the deal so it surely was not a waste by any stretch but it sure was not what everyone had hoped it would be, a fair shot.

Comedy Night At TGC
Just entered my vote for Martin Hall. Upon doing so, I was greeted with this message:
"Thank you for voting in Golf Channel’s Instructor search.
Please vote again tomorrow and be sure to tune in, etc. . . ."

Yoda hilarious link!! i was thinking it was golf related but laughed my ass off.

i think TGC are an "in-house" organisation. they are missing out on the chance to have some great and real instructors working on their channel and its a great shame that they do not realise it. by god i would give my left arm to work one on one with yoda!

Disappointed but not terribly surprised
I'd hoped TGC would've presented us some better choices, but I guess these aren't too surprising, except for Martin Hall. Martin is a good teacher, but as noted in this thread, hardly an unknown that required a search to find. At least one pick was going to be a female, and at least one pick was going to be a personality and/or name, so the other two are explainable. Sure would've liked to have seen a fourth choice that breaks from the TGC mold.

My experience with Karen Palacios-Jansen was about 4 years ago when I attended the Mario Lemieux Celebrity Tournament at a course close to me. Was sitting on a hillside to the left of a par 3, about pin high. Ms. P-J teed off and I lost the ball in the sky. A few seconds later someone yelled "look out". I ducked and the ball missed my cranium by 6 inches. I was 30 yards left of the pin. Oops! But she is very pleasant to follow.....

TGC got cold feet. They saw Yodas and Teds video's and knew they were in way over their heads.

It's not a serious show. It's supposed to be a fun show.

Guest: So, how can I keep the ball lower when hitting into the wind?

Instructor: Lower the Tee and the Ball will go lower.

Guest: Wow, what a great idea. I never thought of that.

OR;

Guest: So, how can I keep the ball lower when hitting into the wind?

Yoda: Relocate the Ball aft in your Stance and re-adjust your 10-2-B grip for straight-away-flight. Then apply a Horizontal Hinge so as not to amplify lift and remember to trace the base line of the Inclined plane because the plane of the center of gravity orbit is steeper than normal. Now remember, the Right Forearm Angle of Approach should return to your Fixed Alignment.

Guest: Ok, does that mean?

Yoda: Ya, Tee the Ball Lower.

Guest: Wow, what a great idea. I never thought of that.

(hey Yoda, ya know I'm just kidding.. You wouldn't say Center of gravity orbit. You would have said: "Sweetspot Plane" )

You give me too much credit. I'm still puzzling over this gem from the Palacios-Jansen video:

"Clubhead speed is what helps us hit the ball far and get distance."
"I did not know that!"

Golf Channel Instructor "search"?
Wanted to respond to the recent selections....and up front...I wanted all to know that I enjoyed the submission process and really enjoyed the work that I put into my entry.

It was a tremendous idea for the Golf Channel to have this contest which inspired many to take the time to enter a submission....and to promote activity on their website. Hat's off to the Golf Channel for the promotion....and it was a success I am sure for the GC. The mere fact that I am making a post is eveidence of the success of their promotion.

However...it was a bit misleading and that is a fact. 4 were to be selected and it was advertised that way...only 3 were selected from amoung the 100's that were submitted. And I thought it was to be 4 new instructors...new faces....etc. Nope...that didn't happen either....with so many capable teachers in this country....how could they not find a new face or two????

It is my observation that this was a huge promowith no respect to the implied intent of the contest. It's disappointing....to say the least.

But....the show must go on!

Sorry Rick, your presentation was first class. You should be very proud of the work you did, and the work all you guys did was a wonderful promotion for LBG!

I guess that's a pretty selfish observation as all I did was sit back on my ample ass and watch...
