A Hand Throw has very little thrust from the Pivot and this Pivot is delayed...

A Shoulder turn throw 10-20-C is a very sharp acceleration that lends itself toward trigger delay...

I could be wrong...I''ve been waiting on a response from Master Yoda..

There is a teaching pro... Top 100 I believe, that teaches a Hand Throw, as far as I can tell. David Glenz is his name. I once saw his own Swing(Stroke) on film. It looked very similar to your student's pattern.
