It was more Hogan-like than I've ever been. Believe it or not, I had a lost a ball. Our 13th hole (#1, shotgun start), I hit a limb on the right side and lost the ball. My provisional was dead straight, gap wedge from 130 to 8 feet, drain-o, bogey. On the only other missed drive, I made a par.
The putter's been hot, as usual. But, I did miss a 3 footer for birdie on a 170 yard par three. One of my ams putted on the same line, and I thought he yanked the putt to the left. I was surprised when my putt broke out of the hole.
No complaints though. You have to take the good with the bad. The fairways were as tight as I believe I've ever played, and they slope from right/left or left/right. Landing in the middle of the fairway, doesn't mean it will stay there.
That is the way I like to shoot a good score. Fairways, GIRs, and make the putts you should make (throw in a little adversity ). I always feel a little guilty if I hack it around, chip in, make putts I really shouldn't make, then post a low round. The numbers add up the same, but it just doesn't feel right. Keep those low scores coming; we do expect to see you qualify for the PGA Championship one day!
