Meghna Bal -- National Champion!

My cell phone rang at 7:40 this Sunday morning. Who in the world -- -- could be calling at such an hour. I wiped the sleepy tears from my eyes and stared at the Caller ID to find out.

It was Rajiv Bal, father of Meghna Bal, calling from India.

"Hello Rajiv!" I answered cheerily...or at least as cheerily as it gets that early Sunday.

Said he, with a chuckle in his voice that spanned the globe: "Am I speaking with the coach of the ladies national champion of India?"



She had done it.

At the tender age of 17, Megs had just won the 90th All India Ladies Amateur Championship, India's most important ladies amateur title!

Playing in difficult conditions at the Delhi Golf Club in New Delhi, India, Meghna was seeded 3rd of 16 players after the 36-hole stroke play qualifier. In the ensuing four-day match play event, she batttled back from slow starts to win her first three 18-hole matches, going to the 17th or 18th hole in each. She then won the 36-hole final (3 and 2) and with it, the national championship of India.

Congratulations, Meghna. We are proud of you!

In fact her father caddied for her in the final two matches and tendered all the support she needed to win. He has been a great motivator in her success as has been Lynn. Well done Megs.

We now have her on the Queen Sirikit cup team for India to be held in the Phillipines in March and I have been appointed to coach the team and hopefully bring about the magic of the Asian Games performance of Dec 2006. We need all the re assurance guys so gun for us and lets hope we can do it with Homer looking down on us.

Thank you for recommending to Rajiv last year that Meghna come study with me, and thanks also for your follow-up with her to cement in the principles. The work was evident upon her return to The Swamp last month.

You have been telling us for some time about the emerging powerhouse of golfers under your watchful eye, and now we are seeing it happen.

Last month I had the privilege of meeting Meghna, her younger brother and father. They are a very friendly and humble family.

The entire family is very focused on precision golf. We didn't have much small talk because they were on a mission while visiting the swamp. Meghna made some big changes while she was under Yoda's watchful eye and clearly they bore fruit in competition.

I think I took some footage of Meghna and Yoda swinging the speedchain. Need to check the tapes and if there is anything there, I'll post it up.

Actually, Meghna made only small refinements to our work of the prior six months, but her brother, Madhva, now that was a different story!

Bagger -- in town on business -- watched (and could only shake his head) as this very talented 16-year-old (in our first meeting) shifted from a Squared Shoulder Plane Backstroke to a Turned Shoulder Plane Backstroke in -- what would you say, Bagger -- less than fifteen minutes?

And the ball responded appropriately.
