......with the excellent distance control, what do you guys think about using similar aciton for putting........pro/cons?

Not a dumb questions at all. Yoda prescribes such a stroke as his method for using a long putter (the instuctions he gave me include bending over and picking the ball out of the cup ). Chuck Evans demonstrates it in a video short on his site for a regular putter.
