Is this what you think the magic of the right forearm is.
Bending + fanning = right forearm takeaway
So, what are the correct muscles, bones and joints used to perform it?
The right shoulder joint and the muscles involved to move the upper arm have a key role in the magic of the right forearm.
The fanning motion you are talking about is from the rotator cuff muscles in the right shoulder rotating the upper arm
When you learn how the body moves you will understand.
The hands/arms work on a vertical circle while the rotator cuff controls the right shoulder motion which also works in a circular motion which is anticlockwise kinda like over the top motion

I know that my mind is in my mittens....and on most occassion I have no trouble taking my forearm (with its side-kick...the golf club) up, back and in to my chosen top location. I am tracing a straight plane line the whole way in anticipation of destroying the same on the way down, out and forward. Perhpas knowing the muscular progeniture of this "magic" would have accelarated my progress. Except it came in the form of "fanning" sans-club, "fanning" with a kid's plastic club, "fanning" with a dowel, finally "fanning" with an implement ill suited for the task! I tend to use RFT and "fanning" interchangeable because I am such a big....FAN!
With all due respect I do not have to know a darn thing about the muscles to be able to have a three dimensional interaction with the ball! Geometry of the circle and the phsyics of rotation is about as deep as Okie wants to go! Forgive my narrow mindedness.
David Orr's explanation was sufficient...making special note that the hand originates it all.

Okie i understand you and been down that road you are at . But one day the thruth will set you free and i am not saying what you are doing is wrong. But in my opinion you are ready for the final stepping stone

Well, that just makes me M.O.R.A.D I have checked out the Dark Side a bit. Of course if that is not what you are referring to then throw me a frikkin' bone will ya! Golf has removed (painfully) all dignity and pride. I am teachable...but don't be a tease!

Ya gonna spill the pintos, or what? Give me a primer of sorts, please. I promise not to tell anybody!

Watch Ben Hogan 1967 Masters . For some reason he allowed clem darracott to film him. I think Hogan was leaving his masterpiece behind for all to see. The end product of 40 years of searching
No joy, Pistolero! I guess I am unclear as to what you are getting at, other than I may stumble upon IT while watching Hogan circa 1967. Much like Snead watching Hogan messes me up! I appreciate the Master/Grasshopper caper as much as any graden variety Tibetan (free Tibet) , but I need at least a slice... a measly crumb will not do (due to my deabilitating ignoramititis...aggravated by bucket posts) I may be off the range but did Hogan not use a shoulder turn takeaway? You know keeping the bermuda triangle etc,
I think you are saying a better understanding of musculature will improve my understanding of 7-3/7-8? Or will it change my unashamed adherence to its MAGIC? If it is the later...I am indeed NOT ready. If elaborating is ill-advised divulgence of hard earned trade secrets with which you support your family...I understand. I know one thing RFT... works, and I don't know much about the muscles that make it happen.

Hmmm tempting me . RFT up in and back. When the masterpiece was done the left arm takes care of the UP ( left arm works up the chest) initially. So what motion of the right shoulder would you need to make to take care of the IN and BACK and put it in a position to stay "high" in the downswing?

Hogan had three secrets.
He TRACED...THRUST....and HINGED! The good news is we can all learn to do that. Unless you are just wanting to know how Hogan did it, it makes no sense to "copy" He was utilizing law...he was not the law. I was serious about the comment I borrowed from Snead. Hogan's swing is too "slashing" for me. This may be heresy but I have never been that enomored with his manner and disproportionate mystique! A bit off topic, I know but all roads do not lead to Hogan. I am a Gene Littler kinda guy, in terms of mph/rpm.
One last cheap shot. I once asked a 4 time British Open winner. What was Ben Hogan like? Response "He was a fierce competitior, but you would do better to copy Byron Nelson." I expressed this sentiment to Mr Nelson in 1993 (by showing up univited to his ranch in Roanaoke) He was not home at the time so I expressed it in a scribbled note. I left my name and address. Two weeks later I recieved a hand written letter with an autographed picture. his letter first chided me by saying he does not recieve univited guests at his home. The end to this story is almost predictable. I misplaced the letter and photo while moving house. Funny thing about the picture was that he must have been in his 80's! I fear it was jettisoned by my dearly beloved with unwanted papers etc. It is still a touchy topic, much like my wedding photos (with negatives) being stolen while on honeymoon. In fact i have not managed to keep my hands on practically any of the golfing memorabilia that I have been given over the years. I once owned one of Bobby Locke's flat white caps...he signed the label inside for me. That story is too painful. The real reason for my digression is to get to 400 posts!
