Lynn, I'm guessing you had a little editing to do on that very good tape!

No mas, please.

Would you disclose how much film or how long the material was that wound up on "the cutting room floor" before the final product? Very interesting stories about that, I'm thinking.
In my inner city classroom, I teach a " RED-C" Constructed Response. It's like a Power Package for writing for small people. There is a question or prompt and then a Restatement of the prompt, an Example, two Details, and a Conclusion.
When I say " RED-C" in class, lots of my peeps say "Oh, just like Moses!"
Audiences vary and LOVE is stronger than anything. Your passion for golf is terrific, surpassed only by your skills. You got game!
Next golfing insight?

mea culpa!
Ok, sorry for any offence, I did receive an email from a forum member and perhaps copying and pasting my reply to that user is easier than creating a storm in a tea cup.

Thanks for the email and I'm sorry if it caused any offence. Perhaps my question would have been better written as "christian americans" rather than specifying any colour.
As I said, I am interested in the use of language in communicating. I wanted to know if the two religious references had been deliberately placed or were just part of Yoda's normal communication style.
I would speculate that due to the golf's elitist nature, the majority of golfers are middle class and above and that social circle would be more likely to be church going than poorer people, hence my question as to whether it was subliminally aimed at them or just a natural choice of words that Yoda would use.
I have no agenda here, I am just genuinely curious. If you watch any public speakers they will normally avoid any reference to religion for fear that it will alienate a section of their audience, unless they specifically want to target that audience. I just find the matter interesting.
|
I hope that explains my interest.
I reiterate that I have no agenda whatsoever just an interest in the use of language in public speaking. As I said in my emailed reply to the forum member, many public speakers deliberately avoid political and religious references when speaking to a wide and varied audience.
Yoda has clarified that this is his normal speach pattern so please like me consider the matter closed. I don't want to alienate anyone with this or cause issues with any users. It does however make my point though, as it has already caused debate, think of the effect that it might have on people who don't know Yoda.

My message is directed to all golfers throughout the world. I offer it freely without regard to race, gender, religious preference, creed, nationality or any other excluding characteristic, including prejudice of any kind.
In less than three days this short video has been viewed by an international audience of more than 1,200 people. It tells me that my mission -- to bring the correct information into the hands of golfers everywhere -- is alive and well.
And that makes me very happy.

People, the Bible is World Literature. David and Goliath is a story. Get over yourselves.

Watching the Golf Channel over the years I have learned that what you know is not nearly as important as how you present yourself. It's all about charisma, personality and looks. Ever listen to Nick Faldo analyze someones swing? Ever watch Michael Breed put a blow up ducky life preserver around his chest and go on to explain the importance of "staying connected"? I can go on and on. It is my opinion that the majority of golf channel viewers want to be entertained with a quick fix and would get bored quickly by an explanation that is too technical. Yoda has more knowledge about the golf swing in his thumbnail than all the Michael Breeds and Nick Faldos of this world combined but his vast knowledge is IMH opinion not what the Golf Channel is looking for. They want a more cotton candy type of approach to teaching and I don't think Yoda would look good with a duck around his chest. Besides, if he gets the job then what will techno nerds like us do for a fix
Having said that I sure wouldn't mind seeing Yoda on the golf channel with that duck around his chest

There are some things best left to the imagination, dh, and me wearing a rubber ducky on national TV is one of them. Ain't gonna happen!
