I hit some balls today and felt PP#3 as expected on the aft with the index knuckle.
Then I began swinging, removing my 1st knuckle from the aft side....concentrating on dragging(pulling toll bell) rather than driving(axe handle) to see if I can feel thàt "DRAG PRESSURE".

Did I feel it?
Yes
Was it as intense at lag pressure?
Yes and No
Where was it?
Well, it wasn't just PP#2 . It was shared between PP#4 and PP#2 The Pulling force didn't feel as intense as the driving force but maybe because it was shared between PP4 and pp2
When I tried to make either pp4 or pp2 to feel as intense as pp3 at impact by changing my swing the worse I made contact with the ball.

To add, I think a swinger's Drag pressure is not as intense and felt differently than a hitter's lag pressure The hitter's lag pressure is felt because of a straight line delivery.
The swinger's delivery to the ball is circular and the shaft rotates counterclockise to the ball. This action produce a torque type force
The "drag" pressure is therefore not behind the shaft rather on top portion of the shaft.to produce the turning motion that would be felt at PP#2 and PP#1
PP#4 is also on "top" on the shaft and directs the dragging load as an addition gear much like a gear in a tranmission driving smaller gears to torque the shaft.
This is what I believe is "Drag Pressure" and why it is different from Lag Pressure.

dlam,

Have you ever practiced with the PureBallStriker? It has helped MANY of my students in feeling #3. I use it every time I practice...

Kev, I heard good comments bout the pure ball striker.
But right now I want to use the 3 barrel swinging protocol and not use any hitting action for my irons....things may change later.

Hi Kev

i'm going to give a hitting motion some serious attention during the next few months. I played around with it some this morning on the dog walk with some success, my mistakes were weak cuts & occasional shanks, where i think i was allowing my head to move towards the target in the down stroke, but the good ones were quite nice & i can see, as you suggested, how the motion could be good for the short game.

i'll get a pure ball striker posted over to me, don't think we can get them in the UK, unless anyone reading this knows different ?

Hope you are surviving your winter, ours has temporarily let up & will allow us to play tomorrow i think, though probably not on the main greens.

Tim

Tim,

I know Jeff has a way to do it, but I can't remember who you order from. Here is Jeff's email, I know he will help you, tell him I sent you. He's a great guy!

jeff@pbstriker.com
teamevansgolf@cox.net

Please let me know if those emails don't find him...

Tim, I hate to sound like it's easy to spend your money, but Jerry and I have found the TALY to be an indispensable training aid for learning proper impact alignments and finish swivel. YODA has a great video explaining it.

The lag pressure you feel is a function of acceleration. If you feel less of it while you swing you have less acceleration. That shouldn't be the case, IMO.

Swinging is good for learning golf because you are forced to use your lower body and your big muscles (Zone 1) properly to get a decent result. If your Zone 1 has issues you will probably get better results trying to hit. But you will never get great results with any pattern before you master Zone 1.

Something you said about your pressure points made me wonder whether you actually change your grip when you shift between hitting and swinging. That shouldn't be necessary nor would I recommend it. The PP#3 rotation should happen because of grip change or a steeper seing. But because of a pitch elbow in the down swing, because you turn your arms with your pivot and because you aim for a dual horizontal hinge action (which comes rather natural with swinging when it's done right).

Bernt,

one of my current struggles with swinging is the proper swivel or dual horizontal hinge action.
I am trying different wrist actions to match my pivot actions.
I notice that my rhythm is bang on when I employ standard wrist action as the rate which I turn zone 1 muscles is at the same rpm as the rolling of my left wrist.
I think that is one of the difficulties with swinging is not to compensate too much and feel the pressure points just exclusively with PP#4 or PP#2 but both.

Check your grip at impact fix. It sounds like the hands are working too hard for clubface control - they are clamps - and the proper alignments at impact fix are the only sure way to allow them to act like clamps!
