Here's an interview I did in Atlanta the Sunday after Brian's great win. Enjoy!

Third time's the charm, lencoo. That long-time PGA TOUR event held at Quail Hollow Country Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, is now (and through at least 2014) the Wells Fargo Championship. Whether or not the WF sponsorship will continue after that remains to be seen. One thing's for sure, they won't be there in 2017: Quail Hollow has been named the host club of the PGA Championship.

The Quail Hollow name was determined the 'flash point' of least resistance after Wells Fargo bought Wachovia, a recipient of federal funds under TARP (Troubled Assets Relief Program). In the environment created by the new administration, the Wells Fargo folks decided it was politically incorrect to publicize the sponsorship of a major sporting event, despite its long history of raising millions of dollars for charity. Happily, that cloud has now lifted.

My first experience with Quail Hollow was in 1969. I was a 22-year-old serviceman and had driven up from Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, South Carolina. Dale Douglass won by four that year, and I watched as he proudly lifted the trophy. It's inscription?

The Kemper Open.
