Something interesting regarding takeaway appears on Disk 5 as well. TT says, "Pivot controls the backswing, Right forearm controls the downswing". He makes that statement a few times and says that is the easiest way to do it. He makes the statement when discussing "monitoring" in 5-0.

Question for DG or anybody else who had the pleasure of having lessons with TT. Did he teach a right forearm takeaway???
TT taught both Right Forearm takeaway and Standard Hip Action. At the beginning of my 3 day school Tommy taught me right forearm takeaway. At the end of my 3 day school Tom taught me the finer points of standard hip action. One point, standard hip action complies naturally with the 3 dimensional start up (Backward, Upward, and Inward). Especially the Backward action (however, Tommy used standard hip action only at the beginning of the backswing, then he used the right forearm pickup to keep the hands on the straight line delivery path, if he didn't the hands would go on a Top Arc and angled delivery path, true standard hip action from startup to the end of the backswing produces an angled path with the hands). My feeling is....Tom may have used standard hip action for two reasons....for the golfers who pulled the club inward with the right forearm and for the golfers who's backswing problem was lifting the club up without any backward motion. I'm sure Tommy was good at solving golfers problems as any other GSED or AI would tackle them. From the new DVD's, it appears Tommy taught the right forearm downswing per the magic of the right forearm or he taught "Shoulder Turn Throw" trigger (Lowering the right shouler at startdown, not with hips or lower body). Also from the DVD's, it appears Tommy was interested in what procedure worked best for you. He just layed out the options ( but appear to recommend using the right arm "Whipcracking" motion or the right shoulder for swinging)...at least this is the case at this 5 day school. I won't be able to watch the whole 12 DVD set from start to finish until mid-June.
